How to Measure your Table for a Tablecloth

How to Measure your Table for a Tablecloth

Whilst some may think a bouquet of flowers or seasonal ornaments create the ultimate centerpiece, we wholeheartedly believe that your tablecloth is the real star of the surface. Just like any other decor, selecting the right tablecloth is much more than just finding the right colour or design.

Getting the right size fit for your table is essential to getting the most out of your cloth, so we’ve put together this guide to help you find the right tablecloth for your table.

Step 1. Determine Table Drop / Overhang Length

Before you get started, you’ll need to think about how you wish to use your tablecloth. Typically, for more casual use cases, we recommend a 20cm overhang from the edge of the table to the bottom of the tablecloth - though this is really just preference!

You could always go a little longer and use our durable table clips to secure and shorten the tablecloth overhang.

For the more formal events, we suggest a ~40cm drop from the edge of the table to the bottom of the tablecloth.

Recommend Overhang Lengths
  • Round Tables - 20cm Recommended
  • Rectangle/Square Tables (Casual) - 20cm Recommended
  • Rectangle/Square Tables (Formal) - 20-40cm Recommended

Step 2. Measure your Table

Round Tables

Measuring round tables seems trickier than it really is. To measure for your round wipeable tablecloth, simply measure the diameter of your table by running a tape measure end to end through the middle of the tabletop. Remember to consider the overhang - we recommend allowing for 20cm.

Table Diameter+(Overhang x 2)=Tablecloth Size

Square or Rectangle Tables

To measure a square or rectangle table, simply measure the length and width of your table. Now take the length and add double the size of your desired overhang (to allow for both sides). Repeat this exact process for the width of the table and you’ll have the length and width dimensions for your tablecloth!

Length of the Table
+ (Overhang x 2)
xWidth of Table
+ (Overhang x 2)
=Tablecloth Size
